What is the cost of a logo?

What is the cost of a logo?

I found this article recently, and found it really interesting that some of the worlds best known brands never actually paid a penny for its design! Pretty amazing really. What is the cost of a logo? Some say it’s expensive! Others see it as a worthwhile investment in their business.

Jack Lowe gives a fantastic insight into why well know brands have done so well, if branding is of importance for your business I recommend you have a read of this blog.

It was good to read that Nike did reward Carolyn Davidson, the designer of the most famous swoosh in the world. Back in 1971 she was paid just $35  for this iconic logo. Nike then went onto present her with a  beautiful ring  and  an undisclosed amount of shares in the company by way of a thank you some years later. Here is a snippet of the article, so feel free to click through and read it in more detail.:

The Cost Of A Logo

 BY JACK LOWE

With the highly controversial London 2012 Olympic logo soon to be gone from our billboards and television screens once and for all, we decided to take a look at some other well-known logos and find out exactly how much their respective creative agencies charged for them.

Of course, the worth of a logo is a famously hard thing to determine. The very fact that a simple or low-key design often works far better than something intricate or brightly coloured means traditional methods for calculating how much to charge – using things like time and experience – are often thrown out the window. As such, some of the most famous logos of all time have been commissioned for next to nothing, while astronomical sums have been paid for designs most people wouldn’t think about twice (not that that’s necessarily a bad thing). So here you have it, a run down of logos, spanning a price spectrum of £0 to £4.6 million.
