After beating many other advertising companies to become the agency of record for Spire FM, we supplied them with a range of design work and marketing support, from motion graphics to banners and promotional goods.

We worked with Spire FM for a number of years on a variety of projects. These briefs covered improving the brand identity, creation of exhibition banners, video trailers and promotional products for sales days, as well as attending those days to deliver presentations on marketing and media use.

We also designed outdoor ads for Spire FM’s own clients, which are various businesses in and around Salisbury, that are placed on the rear of the Salisbury Reds Park & Ride buses.

Spire FM had no in house design capacity so were were tasked with creating any marketing tools that the radio station needed to support various campaigns.

The various design approaches we used were handed over, after a number of years, to an in house designer and used as templates for ongoing promotions. The Options sales campaign proved particularly successful and we were asked to support it with design and public speaking on multiple occasions.

The South Wiltshire Business of the Year Awards design approach was completely revamped with new branding and a website. In addition, we were appointed judges of the Marketing Excellence category.

We have been working with Konami for over 20 years now. We’ve helped them launch Metal Gear Solid and been its brand guardians ever since the PSOne days. We’ve also created packaging for every version of Pro Evolution Soccer, amongst a huge body of work for this top Japanese publisher.

When Konami decided to reboot Castlevania they asked us to help with the brand positioning, advertising and packaging as well as elements of in game content.

Castlevania is a long-standing IP for Konami. It  was first released in 1986 on Nintendo’s Famicom system. It’s seen a number of releases since then on just about every console platform.

The reboot in 2008 was being developed by Mercury Steam in Spain. An.X spent the next six years supplying design, script and marketing consultancy services to the Konami’s European Development Studio for this new take on a classic video game series. We even co-wrote the story and dialogue for the first reboot.

The development team in Spain and the marketing team in the UK needed various forms of support. First up came the logo to help with the game announcement, plus various trailers during the pre and post launch phases. In addition there were promotional posters and the various game packaging elements. We were also called on to come up with promotional goods, which we sourced from suppliers in the Far East.

Our work on the game’s story and script allowed us to write and direct voice over sessions with Sir Patrick Stewart, Robert Carlyle and Jason Isaacs. This was a huge privilege to say the least.

With everything from static and animated logo design, script writing, marketing strategy and positioning advice, video trailers, promotional posters and advertising, it’s fair to say we were heavily involved in all aspects of this series’ reboot and promotion. Although Konami do not release specific sales numbers, the Lords of Shadow series of Castlevania games is the best-selling version of the brand ever released.

Konami is our longest-standing client and we continue to work with them, most regularly on European packaging design and first party submissions handling. We’re proud to have helped launch and promote every single Konami video game released over the last 23 years.

We have decades of experience working within the music industry and entertainment sectors. Clients included Chrysalis, Virgin, Universal and, of course Tronic. We have worked on album cover design, music website design, logo and branding design, CD and vinyl packaging, iTunes ready design work, merchandise design, and event artwork.

For Christian Smith, we worked over a five year period to help define the visual identity for Tronic, the world’s #2 record label for techno.

We have always been fans of Christian Smith, the DJ, record producer and label head. When he posted on social media asking for a designer to work on album covers for his label, Tronic, we got in touch and the rest is history.

Over the next five years we worked on new versions of all album cover and EP designs for all releases on Tronic. In addition, we designed various individual artist album sleeves. Part of this process involved delivering these album cover designs in formats suitable for social media and all the main digital record stores, such as Beatport, Juno, etc along with motion graphics-based videos suitable for YouTube.

We also created a new logo for the management agency, Integral Music Management. Along with branding for events such as Maze and Move.

We worked with Christian and his team for over five years, which is an ideal period as it allowed us to closely monitor the brand’s development over that time and help define its direction.

By late 2017 Tronic and their associated management agency had grown significantly. They now had the capacity to manage their design requirements internally with new staff hires. We’re now looking forward to seeing Christian, Rena and all of our friends at future club nights together.

We worked with the then recently formed Chippenham BID over a six month period on an outdoor advertising campaign along with some video marketing in order to help them promote the town and various initiatives that they and others carried out.

Our initial brief was design and develop an outdoor advertising campaign to promote the installation of a town centre free wi-fi system – the campaign needed to be visible to visitors to the town centre but also required a Google Adwords component targeted at residents in a tight geographic radius of the town centre.

After drafting the ideas for the outdoor advertising campaign, we created the artwork to support it, bought appropriate Google Adwords and Google Display Ads to hit the target audiences and secured a partner to help deliver some of the more creative outdoors ads we’d devised.

This proved so successful that we were then briefed to help promote the town’s Christmas Lights Festival through the production of a Christmas video.

The Christmas videos proved to be a special challenge as we filmed in the Autumn when most businesses hadn’t dressed their premises for the Christmas season. We had to carefully plan the shot list (mood, decoration, etc.) of the interiors with each business owner. The winter atmosphere for the external shots was achieved in post-production.

The wi-fi promotion campaign led by the outdoor ads was an immediate success and Chippenham BID achieved their download goals for the connected App in a very short time.

The first of two Christmas trailers went live very shortly after it was delivered to the client, generating an amazing 20,000 views on Vimeo in a matter of days. Local media picked up on this and and also on the second one’s success, comparing the campaign favourably to commercials produced by John Lewis and Sainsbury’s.

The Salisbury BID was formed in late 2014 with various remits covering business support, city street maintenance as well as marketing and events.

We were part of an initial consultative group that helped with marketing strategy and graphic design. We delivered leaflet design and annual report design in the early stages of the BID’s establishment.

We were part of the initial steering group that helped establish the BID in Salisbury city centre and contributed to various marketing sub groups and committees and presented reports to the Board in the early months. Once the local businesses had voted for the establishment of this Business Improvement District, we created various leaflets designs for its business members as well as the general public. Alongside maps and travel guides for public use, we created annual reports for the BID team and their members.

Salisbury’s BID is now in its second five year term and it continues to go from strength to strength. It has implemented many campaigns to promote Salisbury city centre and was recently challenged with lifting the profile of the city in the wake of the novichok nerve agent attack on the Skripals and others and the subsequent clean up operation.

But their request to help them launch a game at E3 in Los Angeles in June 2013 was almost as secretive as the the game itself. Little did we know at the time they’d asked us design for The Division.

To help Ubisoft launch this new video game title at E3, we were briefed on the new brand’s purpose, its modern-day setting, location and the fact that the storyline revolved around a weaponised virus being released in the boroughs of New York causing Directive 51 to be implemented. But that was it. We do love a challenge though!

Event marketing for video games can be very creative indeed as we’re often selling an idea or a story. So, for research we looked into how governments deal with pandemics, their strategies and communication methods. Plus, how viruses can spread in densely populated urban areas and the effect on the infected population.

The natural result of this research was to create a ‘US-Government’ bio-hazard warning leaflet, which would be given away free to fans at the show and help start to immerse them in the world of what would come to be revealed as The Division. Plus, another free giveaway, a poster showing a map of Brooklyn’s transport network subtly hinting at a viral path through a host body.

This launch was so successful that Ubisoft asked us to collaborate again two years later at another E3 event. So, in 2015, we created a series of animated videos that were displayed on screens around their event booth, showing visitors how to play the demo of The Division that they were waiting patiently in line for. These too proved successful and Ubisoft’s internal development team went on to implement them, now using the in game graphics, for the open Beta test in February 2016, a few weeks before the game’s launch.

We’ve helped Ubisoft with many of their most successful brands including Rainbow Six, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and, of course, The Division.

This Salisbury-based medical services business approached An.X to help create a professional brand, create a new logo and then incorporate the work into a short form brand manual. We implemented their new professional design across a range of media, including a website, business stationery and exhibition materials.

Initially we carried out a marketing audit of the business. These audits usually involve a series of meetings interviewing key personnel and clients, collating all promotional materials and reviewing their content before submitting a report. After a thorough research phase, we have an understanding of the service delivery and customer needs. We then focus on creating a logo and a colour palette to combine, in this case, a feeling of technology and data management in the medical sphere.

Once the brand design was established, we applied it primarily to the website, and carried out a root and stem review of the information flow and user experience. Designs for stationery, exhibition displays, pop-up displays and flyers followed soon afterwards.

The goal of the marketing campaign was to generate sign ups for a series of business seminars offering free advice on obtaining finance for small businesses and marketing your business. One of the key KPIs for the campaign was to drive the audience to sign up to one of a series of strategy days. So, it was critical that there was a sign up mechanism designed into the creative assets.

We devised a multi channel approach with video marketing at its heart alongside Google Display Ads, Google AdWords, a direct mail shot delivered to the same households that our TV Ad was being targeted at and a SKY TV AdSmart schedule showcasing two 30-second spots. All the creative elements drove recipients to two specific landing pages containing sign-up forms for the free business seminar days. In addition, we worked with two other agencies who implemented the Google Ad buy for the digital ads we’d created and who coded the landing pages into the Swindon & Wiltshire Growth Hub’s main site.

This primarily video marketing campaign delivered a 140% increase in site sessions and a 563% increase in page views. The Google Display portion delivered 90,000 impressions from a very tight audience profile. Sky AdSmart added another 60,000 impressions with an average 3.6 frequency across specific Wiltshire households. Two courses were fully booked during the campaign period.

After our successful work on an earlier product catalogue for Timage, they came back for a new brochure for their lighting and furniture ranges.

Having already designed a great brochure for Timage the previous year, the initial stages of this project were simple to execute at speed. We already knew what different paper types would suit the client and their product ranges and that the most likely print supplier would be Park Lane Press who’d printed the earlier job. Plus, the brief from the client was straightforward and and they had confidence we could deliver to their high standards in a timely manner.

The greatest difficulty was ensuring we had all the requisite photographic assets from the various manufacturers that Timage use. And that they were all in technical formats that could be used in this new brochure design. This project also needed a great deal of photo retouching as the various product shots had been lit differently and were in a range of compositions. We hope you’ll agree that the end result reflects the quality of these fantastic lighting and furniture products.

The initial short run of catalogues was delivered in time for a large trade event that Timage were attending. They were well received by show attendees and helped contribute to enquiries and sales from the event. A later longer print run has been used in the showroom as part of a suite of display materials.

Having recently undergone a brand strategy review, Andrew and Michael Freeman, the Academy’s directors, asked us to design a visual identity – logo and supporting brand materials. 

The team at KTA needed a full set of brand materials once the logo, colour palette and font family were all designed. This included apparel for both staff and students, stationery, student reports, posters, pop up displays, a PowerPoint presentation template and print and digital ads to promote the Academy.

The KTA team presented a very well developed and considered brand strategy to us, which made it fundamentally simpler to design the initial concepts for the new logo and primary brand architecture. Creating the line art representation of a trampolinist in full spin was trickier to achieve as we wanted a balance between dynamism and simplicity but the end result is works well.

Since being established in 2006, and with the Freeman brothers joining in 2011, the Academy has gone from strength to strength. KTA gymnasts have won 8 World Age Group Championship medals (x5 Gold, x1 Silver, x2 Bronze) and seen 3 gymnasts on World Class Programmes. And, since 2013 have helped more than 2,500 members to enjoy trampoline gymnastics and make some lifelong memories.
