Cross Keys is a combined retail and business centre in Salisbury’s historic market square. The retail part, in particular, had declined in recent times under previous owners. Our client purchased the units and required a complete rebrand both to revitalise the public face of the buildings and also to help progress their planning application with the local authorities.
Our research showed multiple variations of the crossed keys symbol in current use but also a strong history of the symbol since the original building’s construction in 1716.
We designed a reinterpretation of the symbol and paired it with a typeface that could reinforce heritage whilst reflecting modernity. At the time of writing, the redevelopment of the centre is ongoing.
